This Cat Is Obsessed With Fish And Spends Hours Watching The Aquarium, So He Got A Special Viewing Pod In It

Have you ever wondered what your cat looks out the window at? Or what does it see when it looks at a fully white wall?

One thing is certain: you never know what cats are thinking. Whether it's the abyss, the potential bugs (or ghosts) lurking in your house, or even some chirping birds outside that they're stalking with pleasure written all over their small faces, they're looking for something.

Cats are as cryptic as they come, as are their strange obsessions with specific objects. Jasper, for instance, adores fish.

Most cats do, although they find fish to be a tasty treat. However, not Jasper.

His stomach is not the reason he loves fish. It's because he enjoys the peace and tranquility he gets from watching them swim and flit in their tank.

And it's not simply a tank he admires from afar. His mother made certain that this unique kitty could be totally immersed in a 360-degree view.

Jasper, on the other hand, gets to keep his paws dry the entire time. A hollow acrylic cube rises from the bottom of this unique fish tank, allowing Jasper to slip beneath the aquarium and stick his head into the cube for the ultimate fish viewing experience.

Melissa Krieger, Jasper's mom, has had fish tanks her whole life, and as she says, “I love watching my fish.” So do her cats.

Melissa and Jason of Aquatics and Exotics in Cincinnati, Ohio, had a talk about their shared love of fish gazing. Jason has been cleaning Melissa's tanks for fifteen years and has developed a friendship with her over that period.

Melissa and Jason were watching her cats enjoy the tank during one of Jason's two-week maintenance visits, and Melissa had an idea.

Melissa explained, “I said, ‘Wouldn’t it be fun to have one of those pop-up areas, like in a children’s zoo, inside the tank for the cats?’ Jason said, ‘I can do that!’ He did some drawings and pricing, I said yes, and he built it!”

Melissa knew her cats, Jasper and Willow, a Siamese brother and sister, and Indigo and Cobalt, two Russian Blues, would be fascinated by the viewing cube. But, as is typical of felines, it took roughly a month for any of the cats to try it out.

"We didn't want to force anything," Melissa explained, "but eventually cat curiosity took over, and Jasper was the first to do it."

“We have had a tank in the same spot since our house was built 15 years ago. I have 4 cats and a chair next to the tank. They would all sit and watch fish from time to time,” Melissa says.

Melissa was not really surprised when Jasper gave it a try. Her cat is, "inquisitive" and fond of boxes, as she described him.

"Any box, any size,” said Melissa. “I just walked in the house and he is sitting in a little plastic box you store leftovers in. It was on my kitchen counter and there he is. Just looking at me like ‘what?’”

Because Jasper loves boxes, it's no surprise that he was the first to try the inverted box, which allowed him to get up and personal with the fish! Here's something interesting to know.

Melissa's fish are older than Jasper, who is three years old. The scaled ones have grown accustomed to the cats, and the parrotfish even like greeting them when they arrive.

Sister Willow enjoys her time in the tank as well, but Jasper isn't keen on sharing!

He really enjoys it:

But just because Jasper refuses to share the tank doesn't mean he isn't the best brother ever. One of Melissa's favorite characteristics of her blue-eyed kid is his concern for his feline siblings.

“They all cuddle together and it’s so cute. A big kitty pile of coziness.”

They are simply adorable to watch. We hope to see more of their videos soon.
