YouTuber Builds a Custom Home Elevator for His Beloved Geriatric Cat
Liam Thompson did something most cat owners would never even consider, he built a home elevator for his 20-year-old cat, Frodo. The DIY project was designed to help the aging orange tabby reach his favorite sunbathing spot without struggling up steep outdoor stairs.
Thompson documented the whole build on YouTube, showing how a small box-shaped cart moves along tracks and is lifted by an electric hoist. It is a practical fix, but it is also a very sweet one, especially for a cat who has clearly earned a little extra comfort.
And this was not Thompson's first custom creation for Frodo, either. Read on.
Liam Thompson, a YouTuber, constructed a home elevator for his cat Frodo

Frodo is 20 years old

And he has difficulty walking and climbing stairs.

So Liam decided to construct an elevator for him

While outdoor cats have a life expectancy of just 2 to 5 years, indoor cats live, on average, 10 to 15 years. While dependent on many factors, including luck, some domestic cats can live up to 20 years.
Frodo is one of those lucky cats. It is amazing how active he is, and it is obvious that Liam is taking great care of him.
Factors such as diet, healthcare, and the environment can impact lifespan. In general, neutered cats tend to live longer.
It also echoes the adoption story of the world’s oldest living cat, adopted and finally given her best years.
It is a simple solution, but it required a lot of research and labor

Frodo took it for a spin

Cats go through six key life stages:
- Kitten (up to six months)
- Junior (six months - two years)
- Prime (three to six years)
- Mature (seven to ten years)
- Senior (11 to 14 years)
- Geriatric (15 years and older)
Frodo is well within this geriatric age. However, his charm and attitude help him hide his true age.
And he is happy he doesn't have to climb those stairs

Thompson has the perfect retort for anyone who thinks all of this is a little excessive for a cat: "I LIKE SPOILING MY CAT-SUE ME," the YouTuber sarcastically captioned the video.
But who can blame him for treating his cat as if he were a prince? Frodo certainly deserves it.
When someone has been by your side for 20 years, you have to respect and honor that bond. That kind of devotion is rare among humans.
We are so fortunate to have our pets, and we should help and support them every chance we get.
