A Cat Named 'Bastard' Is Making It Difficult For His Human To Find A Roommate After The Last One Found His Name Offensive

It's hard enough to find a decent roommate you don't mind sharing a space with; having your own pets makes the search even more complicated. The potential roommate has to be okay with living with an animal.

Dogs and cats shed, make a lot of noises, and will relentlessly ask for attention. It can feel like serendipity when we find someone who is also a pet owner and therefore understands what it's like to have one in the home.

This cat owner found herself in a similar situation, and luckily, the frontrunner in the roommate search happens to be another cat owner. The other girl's cat is named Peaches M. Cream — the 'M' stands for meow.

OP's cat is named Bastard. OP didn't like Bastard when she and her ex-boyfriend first got him because he had somehow cut the brake cable on her bike.

OP used to say, "where are you, you little bastard?" before the cat had a name. He also broke her ex's new shoes, at which point they agreed that the cat is indeed a bastard, hence the very unique name.

OP kept Bastard when she and her ex broke up. The cat doesn't seem to have a problem with his name, but OP's potential roommate does.

She told OP that she's offended on behalf of the cat and she won't refer to him as Bastard if they end up living together.

OP doesn't want to change his name because he is still a little bastard but it looks like she has to keep searching for a roommate who won't find the name cruel

Please tell us that's his name on all of his official papers!

Imagining his name being called out in a room full of pet owners is giving me the giggles

Bastard gets his own kind of sweet revenge every single time he makes OP pick up after him

They should set up a play date for the two little Bastards if possible

It's not like he was given the name out of the blue, it looks like his moniker is very well deserved

They literally have no concept of what their names mean and they probably just think their human is making mouth sounds

If anything, Bastard is the better and more approriate name for a cat

I think OP earned the right of naming him Bastard based on what he put her through

OP can tell the roommate his name has been updated. They at least have the same middle name.

We literally work every single day to spoil the little monsters. Giving them funny nicknames is all we have.

At the end of the day, our pets still think they are the boss of us anyway

Well, this was a story about exaggeration, that's for sure. Cats don't really have any idea about names, their purpose, or their meanings. We are certain that the cat doesn't really care what its name is.

OP has to find another roommate, one that is not so shocked by someone else's choice of name for their own pet. May Bastard continue giving OP hell!
