Family drama is the worst kind of drama because even if you try to escape it, it will always manage to find a way back to you. In any other scenario, you can either ignore the problem or try to stay as far away from it as possible.

Unless you completely cut your family off - something not everyone is ready to do - that problem will eventually pop up out of nowhere when you least expect it. This is why people will usually go above and beyond to make sure they have done right by their family members. 

It can become quite toxic if you allow some family members to have a say in some things that don't really concern them. After they realize that they are permitted to alter some aspects of your life, they will try to do it more often and you could never know if their intentions are good or not.

This shouldn't even be an issue to start with. The family had a weird reaction.

It would be weird to name your cat after your recently deceased grandfather.

What you decided to name your cat should normally not cause this much drama. This is ridiculous.

The family's reactions is totally extreme and blown out of proportions.

It's not something people typically do. And forcing someone else to do it is even worse.

The grandfather might not even be okay with naming a cat after him. He never requested it.

The kitten belongs to OP and she has the freedom to name it as she wishes.

The harassment that OP is going through is ridiculous.

OP's family is certainly one of a kind. This wouldn't even be an issue in any other family, but somehow, they decided to make a big deal out of it and blow it out of proportion. OP should not take any of the blame, she has the right to pick any name she wishes for her cat.
