Weddings are one of the most important events of a person’s life. This is why people often choose to have their closest family members and friends play a huge role in the wedding.

Aside from inviting people to their weddings, many people invite the people closest to them to be part of their bridal train.

These trains have a history and significance that many don’t know about.

According to the "confarreatio" Roman ceremony, a wedding required ten witnesses to be present as the couple uttered sacred vows. Even though all of these witnesses were men, the bride was escorted by female guests to the groom's house for the ceremony.

Although many people appreciate being appointed as part of the train, we found a Redditor who opted out of attending her cousin’s wedding despite being a bridesmaid.

OP shared on the AITA subreddit that she is very close to her cousin and was excited to hear about her engagement with her longtime boyfriend.

However, this feeling changed when she met him for the first time. Her cousin’s fiancé was rude to her and when she complained to her cousin, she dismissed it.

Although his behavior continued to escalate and her cousin wouldn’t address it, OP decided to attend their wedding as a bridesmaid.

On the wedding day, her cousin’s fiancé made some comments about OP’s weight that OP found derogatory. She decided she’d had enough of his behavior and told him off. When her cousin heard what had happened, she requested that OP apologize.

OP refused to apologize or attend the wedding. This upset her cousin, leading OP to ask the AITA question.

Some commenters believe OP’s cousin’s fiancé was deliberately trying to cause an issue between her and her cousin, to ruin their close relationship.
