Dramatic Portraits Of Black Shelter Dogs Bring Out Their Overlooked Beauty And Elegance
Black shelter dogs do not always get the attention they deserve, and Shaina Fishman set out to change that with her striking portrait series, Overlooked Black Dogs. The photos spotlight adoptable rescue pups in a way that feels calm, elegant, and impossible to ignore.
Working with Foster Dogs NYC, Fishman used dramatic lighting and a black backdrop to show off each dog's features, from glossy fur to expressive eyes. The project also speaks to a bigger problem, black dogs are often harder to photograph well, which can hurt their chances of getting adopted.
Some of these dogs have already found homes, and the rest still have a chance to win over the right person. Read on.

Hmmm?

Loving the messy look of this pup.

He can't believe what he heard.

This dog's looking wise with his old-man beard.

"Get my better side."

We hope you enjoyed the pictures you've seen so far because we certainly did. Seeing these wonderful dogs can really make you wonder why anyone would have a negative opinion about them.
However, many people still harbor the stigma surrounding black dogs, believing they are all super scary and dangerous. It's very important to try to change that opinion, and we hope these photos can truly make a difference.
If you're still not convinced that these dogs are as adorable as they come, there are more photos waiting for you, along with an incredible video to top it all off.
Love is the best cure, just like in the formerly fearful dog who now enjoys affectionate caresses.
Too cool to look at the camera.

Still adorable, regardless of age.

Those beautiful eyes are just what you need to comfort you.

Go loco!

Who could ever think this happy doggo could be dangerous!

A magnificent photo.

Lots of love for pugs.

Check out this video featuring these wonderful pups and a powerful message.
These portraits have been a treat to look at. Every single photo is a work of art on its own, and when put together, they create a truly wonderful collection that we're happy to have had the chance to explore.
Fishman has once again proven what an incredible photographer she is. Not only do the photos look great, but they also raise awareness about a significant issue we face: the "black dog syndrome."
She wanted more people to pay attention to this, and she found the best way to do it. We believe that this collection can make a difference.
After that, see how foster volunteers were stunned when a foster dog’s litter looked like little cows: the cow-like puppies.
