Whether you're a person who spent every warm evening after work hanging out with friends or a student who had the summer off, this seasonal shift usually means that you're spending more time at home studying or going into hibernation mode. Many people find that spending more time at home also allows them to spend more time with their roommates.

There is no universal shape, size, or attitude among roommates. Perhaps you decide to live in a communal setting in order to improve your social network or financial situation.

Perhaps your living situation was assigned by your institution or university. In any event, living with roommates has its own special advantages and disadvantages.

Although it is our desire to think that we will always get along and be great friends with our roommates, the reality is that this may not be the case. Living with other people might naturally lead to some tension developing or issues arising.

Just like in today's story, issues arose when OP's roommate invited her friend over and she overstayed her welcome. You see, the OP and her roommate have been living in the apartment her parents own for college.

They split utility bills, while she also pays a certain amount for rent. When the roommate's friend came over and stayed for a month, the bills were almost double what they were previously.

This caused issues between them, and you can read all about it as you scroll down to get the full story below.

OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the a-hole:

I might be TA for giving her a short notice to move out, being rude to her and her friend and from her POV not contributing as much as her. There might've been a way to resolve the problem, and I could've communicated the problem better.

The OP revealed who her roommate wanted her to pay rent to

To my parents, because I have a job and could probably afford to pay what her parents are paying if I took on more projects (I work in digital design). My parents discouraged this idea because they don't want me to be too distracted from my studies.

Even the closest of roommates will inevitably have arguments over little things and it can lead to a bigger turn of events. Some Redditors say that being roommates with a friend is a great way to lose a friend.

The OP was advised to find a roommate who seems responsible and charge them full rent. In the end, she was declared not the AH, and that's where we draw the curtains.
