You'd be hard-pressed to find a little girl who has never dreamed of being a Disney princess, or any type of princess for that matter. Imagination is a precious thing, but, it's unfortunate that the media seems to portray the majority of famous characters to fit a certain mold.
However, as we are becoming more progressive over time, thankfully, the media is as well. Hairstylist, LaChanda Gatson, came up with the idea to redefine the stereotype of what a traditional princess is.
Photographers, Regis and Kahran from CreativeSoul Photography have produced a stunning series of images featuring princesses with "their own dash of style, culture and swag." The photos showcase how some of the most popular Disney princesses might look if they were African American.
"The Disney character series was created by hairstylist LaChanda Gatson and child photographers CreativeSoul Photography," they explained when asked how the series came about. "The goal is to inspire more girls around the world to start seeing themselves as regal princesses."
The photographers say the response to the series has been incredible so far. "The social media response has been amazing with currently over 75,000 re-shares on our Facebook post and several other pages," they said.
The pictures are beautiful to say the least! Scroll down to see them for yourself.
