Some animals get a second chance at life, and Kira the wolf pup is one of them. Rejected by her mother just days after birth, she was taken in by a woman who refused to give up on her.

What started as a fragile rescue turned into an unusual family story, with Kira growing up around people, other animals, and a lot of patient care. Now she lives safely with Alida and even spends time with her 7-year-old son.

Here is how the tiny wolf pup went from being abandoned in a nursery to becoming a beloved part of the household.

"I took her from the nursery when she was 28 days old. She is smart but very stubborn," Alida says. However, since the small wolves have no chance of surviving in the wild, they had to find ways to relocate them.

Kira wouldn't have had any chance if she were released into the wild because no one had ever taught her how to hunt. "[The mother] left her infants in the nursery when they were three days old, so they had to be fed by hand. As soon as Kira got stronger, I took her home and initially fed her with milk," Alida added.

Since then, Alida has devoted her time to educating Kira on how to get along with both people and other animals. She made an effort to domesticate her!

This is a lot like the woman who realized her “Japanese Spitz” wasn’t a dog at all, it was a white fox.

Alida says that they went on various walks so that Kira could explore different scents and sounds.

That part took patience.

Kira has lived with her family for a year and is now thoroughly domesticated, despite the challenging times. Kira, who was once a helpless, terrified baby wolf, is now a very amiable furry friend.

She even interacts with Alida's son, who is 7 years old.

Alida's 7-year-old son, Bogdan, experiences a unique relationship with Kira, the little wolf pup who has found her way into their home. The curiosity of passersby, who often ask to take photographs and question the safety of living with a wolf, highlights society's fascination with the unconventional. Despite these concerns, Kira's friendly demeanor challenges the stereotype of wolves as wild and dangerous creatures. This bond between Bogdan and Kira is a reminder of the enriching connections that can develop between humans and animals, fostering empathy and responsibility in children. The story invites readers to reflect on their own thoughts about Kira and Alida's unusual family dynamic, encouraging engagement and discussion in the comments below.

For another gentle giant story, meet Akela, the “world’s largest wolf” rescued from rejection.
