The White Capped Redstart or also known as the white capped water redstart is considered as a passerine bird. It is well known and local to a lot of areas in the Indian Subcontinent as well as in Southeast Asia.
Both the male and female White Capped Redstart birds generally look the same, except that the white cap is a bit larger on males. The juvenile birds look the same as the adults, but the white cap is still blackish in color.
The body of the White Capped Redstart is almost iridescent and luminous from the back, to the head and down to the throat, this bird shows off a glossy black color, with chestnut orange on the underparts. The tail also shows a black terminal. The eyes, bill, legs and its feet are also blackish in color.
White Capped Redstart birds love living near rocky waters. They prefer living there where they can swiftly glide their wings and catch prey.

Female White Capped Redstart
Females are generally similar to the males, but with a smaller white crown.

The juvenile birds of this specie have a duller look and a blackish crown.

Where to find them
These birds are endemic to the Indian subcontinent and southeast Asia. However, you can also find them crossing the borders of China, Myanmar, South and East Tibet, and Laos.

Habitat
These birds live and breed near rocky waters, waterfalls and high cliffs with an altitude of 1800 to 5000. There, they swiftly glide on top waters to catch their prey.

Diet
Though they love the waters, they seldom eat fish. Instead, they enjoy eating insects like flies, ants and beetles. They also enjoy spiders and mollusks.

Breeding Season
This birds starts breeding during the months of May to August. Their nests are usually found 100 to 200 meters above water that are placed in between rocks, alongside streams, or on a tree.
Their nests are deep and made of moss, grass and roots that are mixed with mud. There, the female will lay 3 to 5 eggs, where both parents will protect it until it hatches and be ready to fly on its own.

They are not vulnerable
These birds have a large population, so they are not considered endangered.
