Countless movies and television shows have been created based on true events. Likely many more than you would think.
There are the obvious shows or movies that have reimagined historic events, or are marketed with the enticing “based on a true story.” While others may have been dedicated to the lives of famous people, no matter if the subjects were deeply beloved or hated.
Writers have also created shows and movies based on real-life, tragic events. (Whether or not they were all that good is up to personal taste.)
By exploring real-life stories, audiences are given a new perspective on how the events played out (as everyone has their own personal bias, especially writers). And maybe even some food for thought as they continue to process what they’ve watched.
Unfortunately, even with shows and movies inspired by real tragedies educating the masses in the present day, it isn’t enough to stop similar things from happening again.
But, these shows can be helpful for some viewers as they cope with their lived trauma.

The series premiere of the TV reboot of the 1988 film Heathers was delayed in light of the Stoneman Douglass High School shooting in 201. Paramount Network released a statement explaining:
"Paramount Network's original series Heathers is a satirical comedy that takes creative risks in dealing with many of society's most challenging subjects ranging from personal identity to race and socio-economic status to gun violence. While we stand firmly behind the show, in light of the recent tragic events in Florida and out of respect for the victims, their families, and loved ones, we feel the right thing to do is delay the premiere until later this year."

The episode "Earshot" was set to air on April 27, 1999. Due to the Columbine High School massacre, which occurred the week prior, the release of this episode was intentionally delayed until September 1999, as part of the story included a scene with a student loading a rifle.
