Overwhelmed Dog Owner Contemplates Rehoming Troublesome, Adopted Pet Despite Partner's Disapproval

"She thinks it’s not her fault this is happening and I have no concrete proof that the onions are what caused this."
Like people, dogs have dietary restrictions. Unlike people, they don’t know that they couldn’t eat something and would probably scarf down whatever you give them.
This includes table food that they would literally beg you for it. As much as they are adorable, responsible dog owners should resist and know everything that they can’t feed their pets.
OP has a mixed-breed dog named Odie who she adores and has been in perfect health since she got him. One day, OP wasn’t home the majority of the day and her mom offered to watch Odie.
She came home to find that Odie’s stomach looks odd. Concerned, she called her mom and asked if her dog ate anything that he shouldn’t and her mom confirmed that she fed him a bunch of leftovers.
This alarmed OP since Odie had a sensitive stomach. She then went on to watch over him throughout the night but by Tuesday morning he was in bad shape and a lot of symptoms started popping up.
OP brought him to the vet for treatment and it took a while before he had the energy to start walking again. When he was semi-okay, OP confronted her mother and told her to shoulder the bills for the vet but her mom denied that it was her fault and there’s no solid proof that she caused everything.
The tests may not prove that the food caused OP’s dog to feel ill but there were discussions that her mom shouldn’t have fed him the leftovers, regardless. It could’ve lessened the worry of OP whenever he’s left alone with her in the future and avoided any problem that would result because of it.
