Girl Asks If She'd Be Wrong To Report Roommate's Dog To Management Because Of How Neglected It Is
The owner doesn't seem to be taking care of her dog very much.

Living with someone who has a pet can be a wonderful thing. And that's because you can sometimes get to share in the wonders and great moments of having a pet.
Of course, it also means that you also share the not-so-great moments like the pooping, accidents, or even some chewing here and there. Usually, if the pet owner is a responsible pet parent, those things wouldn't be much of an issue but if they're the complete opposite then the pet can somewhat become a nuisance.
Pet owners should be responsible for their very own pets. Not just because they're living with other people should they assume that those people would share the responsibility with them.
Unfortunately for Redditor Sukasalata, that seems to be the case with her roommate. This said roommate owns a dog and keeps the dog on their porch but other than sometimes giving it food and sometimes cleaning up its waste, the roommate doesn't seem to do much else for her pet.
With the condition of the dog and how it's being treated, OP is growing concerned about it, however, she's not sure if she'll become the bad guy if she reports the roommate's dog to management. Here's the whole story.
OP asks:
SukasalataOP isn't sure if her reasons for reporting her roommate and her dog to management is strong enough
SukasalataThe dog doesn't seem to be getting the proper care it needs
SukasalataOP has spoken to her roommate and has tried to help out, however, nothing seems to have changed
SukasalataNow, OP isn't sure if she should butt into other people's business
SukasalataBy the way that OP described the dog's condition, it's pretty clear that it isn't getting all the proper care that it needs to be happy and comfortable. It's stuck in one place, doesn't seem to be walked frequently, and doesn't seem to be getting enough nutrition too.
It's understandable why OP would be concerned about its state. In addition to that, OP and the other roommates also can't use the communal space they're paying for.
Many people in the comments section sympathize with OP. However, a lot of people are saying reporting to management would be useless.
Here are the top comments.
1. It might be better for OP to report directly to SPCA
Similar_Pineapple4182. Management can't do anything much for the dog
sizzlepie3. The SPCA can do more to keep the dog safe and maybe place it in a better home
YourMothersButtox4. The proper authorities need to be notified
Fiddlywiffers5. The roommate is doing all sorts of wrong things for her dog
effie-sueThis dog is just short of 100% being neglected
effie-sueIf the roommate still refuses to do anything about it, then reporting her would be the only way to go
effie-sue6. An animal welfare society or animal control can ensure the dog is well taken care of
Sparkyfountain7. Because it's the proper thing to do
idkdidofodofodo8. People who can't handle pets shouldn't get them
TheVoidaxisThis person had a roommate who just let his hedgehogs basically run free
TheVoidaxisAnd they agree that people with pets should be mindful of their charge especially when they live with roommates who didn't have a choice in the matter
TheVoidaxis9. Let's hope OP's management is as efficient as this person's
[deleted]10. Do it for the sake of the dog
Literally_Taken11. The longer the dog stays neglected, the worse it's going to be
RaineMist12. The poor creature needs help ASAP
telekelley13. Calling animal control might be a more efficient way to deal with things
Savings-Breakfast-49As many people have pointed out, it might be more efficient to call animal control or an animal welfare society to get the dog out of there and into a place where it can be properly cared for. But still, it would be better to give the roommate one last chance before separating her from her pet.
That would be a decent thing to do. And hopefully, the roommate realizes their mistake and would rectify the whole situation by becoming a better pet owner.
