Should she report her neighbor's dog to animal control for peeing on her lawn?
Don't we all have that one neighbor that does something despicable that gets on our nerves? One Reddit user, cosinamorata, is torn between reporting her neighbor for animal neglect or allowing the neighbor's dog to ruin her lawn.
So she took to the AITA subreddit community to ask for advice on handling the situation. Cosinamorata lives in a home with a fenced backyard, while her neighbors doesn't have a fence.
The problem started when Cosinamorata's neighbor got a puppy a few months after Cosinamorata brought home a giant breed dog. Since the neighbor doesn't have a fenced yard and refuses to keep the puppy on a leash, the puppy often pees on Cosinamorata's front lawn, killing the grass over time.
Cosinamorata said her dog is usually upset each time it happens and would go on a barking spree, waking the house up. Cosinamorata also narrated an incident where the neighbor's dog caused a passing car to stop abruptly while running across the street.
According to Cosinamorata, their county has a leash law prohibiting dog parents from letting their dog off leash unless in their fenced yard or at a dog park. Since she has the law on her side, Cosinamorata is considering using it to put an end to her neighbor's nuisance.
However, she wants to know if she would come off as an asshole. She's also hesitant because she's moving out in March, and her parents would have to deal with any fallout that may come from her reporting the neighbor for animal neglect.
Below are some of the reactions her post generated.
Nothing on Reddit ever stays in Reddit, you know. As soon as this post his Reddit shelves, people started commenting.
Here's what they think.
Every day the neighbor's dog runs around without a leash; he is at risk of being hit by a car or causing harm to others. Bearing that in mind, we would advise that she report to the authorities.
But first, she should have a conversation with the neighbor and make it clear to him that she would report him if he doesn't make effort to restrain his dog.
What do you think?
