10+ Amusing Examples That Show What Famous Monuments In Paris Would Look Like If They Were Replaced With Pop Culture Characters

In the cities from New York to Tokyo, from Rome to Calcutta, monuments and statues are everywhere. Whether they honor political leaders or spiritual gurus or deceased authors, these stone and bronze tributes take a variety of forms: equestrian statues of mighty emperors, public plaques bearing the names of long-dead cultural icons, engraved architectural stonework that commemorates noteworthy events.

There's nothing like a stunning monument or statue to inspire a little local pride and give guests a sense of the city's character. From the Statue of Liberty in New York City to the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro and the Eiffel Tower in Paris, iconic statues and monuments are great sights that people universally love seeing.

It's a given though that these monuments are almost always inspired by the image of real-life people, but how would it possibly look if these statues are actually pop-culture references that people have come to know and love throughout the years? While it's definitely great that we have these stones to honor our history and the people who played such a huge part in what makes a place what it is today, it could definitely be fun if there was just some Shrek statue just around the corner.

That being said, a French 3D artist by the name of Benoit Lapray, who is well-known for his editing and digital artwork skills, has teamed up with 95 Magenta and Emmanuelle Vonck Lugand to show people what it would look like if they replaced statues in the city of Paris with certain characters that have popped their way into the pop culture mainstream. They edited statues to look like it displays Goku from Dragon Ball, Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, Wonder Woman, Darth Vader from Star Wars, among many others.

"A photograph has to tell us a story," writes Benoit on his website. He has studied art, journalistic communication, and photography l in Lyon, France. Now, Benoit is a full-time advertising photographer and retoucher for 7 years.

They did a great job of doing so, and it makes us wonder what it would actually feel like seeing them in real life! Check out their works below.

It's definitely fun seeing all these characters in stone and scattered all over the iconic and romantic city of Paris, even if it's just in edited photos. It makes us wonder when will someone actually put this vision into life because hey, Shrek does deserve a real-life statue of himself after the cultural reset we had when his movie came out!
