In almost all cases, when it comes to stories we read online, we have a predisposition to believe the narrator’s account of events. We hardly ever pause to consider the other viewpoints that the situation presents to us.

Do you ever pause to consider why a total stranger took offense to your favorite influencer or personality when they are telling a story about an aggressive Karen they met at a festival? Undoubtedly, there are some severely disturbed people in the world who have a propensity to lose their cool at the slightest inconvenience.

However, I believe that more frequently than we’d want to acknowledge, there is another narrative that we simply ignore despite it being right in front of us in the shape of the other person’s perspective. The comment sections of Reddit stories written for anonymous clout take on a similar form to this idea.

These stories that we offer are frequently egotistical and designed to boost the author's self-esteem. It's crucial to keep this in mind at all times, yet occasionally it can't be avoided.

For instance, user u/District Dan shared this article on Reddit's r/pettyrevenge subreddit. In the narrative, they talk about their stay at an Airbnb, as they had a wedding to attend.

They stayed at a location that welcomed pets, but they made no mention of bringing a pet. Check out the story below.

The owner was shocked to discover that the couple had brought a dog with them when they stopped by (not sporadically throughout their stay like a creep, but just when they arrived to make sure they were comfortable)

The poster assumed that was the end of it until the owner left them a 1-star review on their page

Of course, this didn't sit well with the poster, who went on to file a number of customer service complaints with Airbnb.

When the poster pointed out that the host had dropped by "unannounced," Airbnb finally conceded and refunded 2/3 of their money

Since we are all the protagonists of our own stories, we are very unreliable as eyewitnesses. Influencers are notoriously disruptive, entitled, and antisocial, which makes the situation unpleasant for everyone else.

Perhaps the "Karen" in this story was the one who was wronged; yet, they lack the hordes of ’stans’ to state who will fervently support them on every issue. Continue reading to see screenshots of the replies; they were mostly positive comments.

Looking at this story from a different angle than the one being used to tell it, it begins to resemble a Karen asking to speak to an employee's manager rather than an Airbnb guest who was wrongfully defamed by a dishonest host.

Yes, this retaliation is undoubtedly petty, but the poster is unquestionably not painted in a favorable light here. Do leave your thoughts about this story in the comments section below.
