Woman Invites Friend And Her Daughter To Her Family's Easter BBQ And Tries To Charge Her $76 For Food

What was supposed to be a fun and relaxing Easter barbecue ended a couple's relationship and a friendship. Her former neighbor invited the OP to an egg hunt and barbecue with her family.

OP said she and her 7-year-old daughter were happy to attend. Two nights before the Easter get-together, her former neighbor said OP owed her $60 for the barbecue.

OP was confused by the unexpected expense, so her neighbor called to explain the situation. She said OP had to pay for their share of the food.

It made some sense, so OP agreed. She then mentioned how she and her kid would like to have grilled sausages as well.

A few hours later, OP's tab inexplicably rose to $76. OP asked where the additional fee was from and asked her neighbor to show what she had bought.

As far as OP was aware, the party consisted of seven adults and two children. Her former neighbor sent a photo of her shopping cart to OP and said she needed to pay for a third of the total — hence the $76.

The additional sausages OP asked for were $3.99. The other items were food and drinks she and her daughter weren't interested in.

They argued until OP refused to pay for anything. Her neighbor said OP could bring food for herself and her daughter, and she would ask her boyfriend to grill it for them.

On Easter Sunday, OP arrived with her daughter. She asked her neighbor's boyfriend to grill their sausages for them.

He was grilling at that time and told OP to go f*ck herself.

OP was confused at her neighbor's nickel-and-dime attitude about the party because they never charged their guests anything when they used to host barbecues together.

Her neighbor said she only provided the venue for this Easter barbecue. The guests had to pay their way. She reasoned that OP should have willingly paid because they knew each other.

OP's friend wanted her to fund her family's barbecue. It wasn't a thoughtful invite.

OP has no obligation to remain in contact with this person and her tacky backyard bbqs.

Why would you stay after getting cursed at around your kid? At least OP didn't pay to be insulted.

The polite thing to do would have been to bring a nice bottle of wine for the host. OP could have gone to a restaurant with her daughter for the amount they tried to charge her with.

What kind of "friends" are these people? OP was probably the topic of the conversation, too.

Don't bring your daughter around these people, OP! Their attitude would rub off on her.

OP should improve her self-worth. Why did she willingly spend time with people like these?

If her former neighbor didn't want to spend money on this party, she should have made it a potluck get-together or something.

The boyfriend was probably so incensed because he didn't expect to shoulder the cost of this barbecue.

OP shared an update. The couple broke up, then her former neighbor proved she was cheap and a thief. OP blocked them both.

OP's judgment was so questionable because why would she spend time with her neighbor after that BBQ fiasco? She didn't even block her when she refused to apologize — she only realized how ridiculous their relationship was when she found out her "friend" stole from her daughter.

Who goes to a friend's apartment to steal a kid's iPad? OP should make sure that these leeches can't worm their way back into her life.
