If you're wondering what inspired artist Hannah Alexander to dedicate a series to Disney heroines but inspired by Czech artist Alphonse Mucha, she said: "I've been obsessed with Alphonse Mucha and 50s Pin Up recently, and this is the result." The first piece in her series was Ariel and she reflected at the time that it was a style she could definitely get used to.
Mucha was a Czech painter, illustrator, and graphic artist, living in Paris during the Art Nouveau period. He is most well-known for his "distinctly stylized and decorative theatrical posters." Mucha created "illustrations, advertisements, decorative panels, and designs, which became among the best-known images of the period."
Art Nouveau has inspired quite a few Disney fans to create incredible illustrative series. Despite the fact that they were all inspired by a single style or even a single artist in time and feature characters who are well-known because of Disney, they all manage to look distinctly different and inexplicably beautiful.
Hannah's series is without a doubt no exception to this observation, her Mucha inspired series is breathtaking. If we could muster up any complaint at all, it would be that she didn't create even more characters for us to gush over.
