Morgan Freeman Turned His Entire Estate Into a Bee Heaven To Make a Climate Change Difference

Roughly eleven years ago the concept of the bees disappearing was only a plot in an entire season of the science fiction television series 'Doctor Who' and seemed unlikely but today it is a real issue.

At first thought you may think that bees disappearing would have little to no negative result. This is not at all true. The disappearance of bees would cause a food crisis as roughly 84% of commercial crops depend on bee pollination.

Fear not though as legendary actor and likeable human Morgan Freeman has done something remarkable to make sure the bees don't completely disappear.

Morgan and the bees

Actor Morgan Freeman took up beekeeping as a hobby in 2014.

“There has been a frightening loss in bee colonies, particularly in this country,” he said in 2016. “To such an extent that scientists are now saying ‘This is dangerous.'”

He converted his ranch in Mississippi into a sanctuary for bees also having bought 26 bee hives from Arkansas. He also covered the 124 acre land with bee attracting plants. Examples of these plants include lavender, clover, and magnolia trees.

Perfect solution?

Freeman says that he feeds the bees sugar water and claims it is done without the protection of a beekeeping suit. His reasoning for this is that apparently he has an understanding with the bees and as a result has never been stung. This hobby is usually taken up in order to obtain home made honey but Freeman says he doesn't want anything from the bees and that he just wants to see them thrive.
