This Cat Is So Fascinated With Water That He Wass Nicknamed “Kyle The Mermaid Cat”

We've all heard sayings that cats and water don't mix, right? Unlike dogs, who love to frolic in the water and some instances are even trained to work in it, most kitties aren't fans of getting wet.

The fact that the feline species evolved in arid desert climates could be one reason for the aversion. Cats were not exposed to rivers, lakes, or rain during their early evolution, and as a result, they were not as comfortable with water as other species.

It's crucial to distinguish fact from fantasy when it comes to understanding why so many cats dislike water. The truth is that some breeds even enjoy swimming.

Although most domestic cats dislike water, their wild cousins, such as tigers, like cooling off or hunting for their next meal in it. A few domestic cat species, such as the Maine coon, Bengal, and Abyssinian, are water lovers that enjoy a few laps around the pool every now and then.

Well, Kyle must be a mix of all these breeds then - because he adores water. Kyle the Mermaid-Cat is a 10-month-old rescue who loves to swim.

Well, it’s more than that, really – this cat is obsessed with the water.

“Hi, my name is Kyle, and this is my brother Simon. As you can see, we have different parents (he is waaay bigger than me but I am stronger 😼) Even when he is sometimes annoying, I love him the most ❤️.”

Below, you can see Kyle sploshing in the sink. While many cats enjoy examining the water, only a few go as far as this.

He joyfully lays down in the sink, getting drenched. He's always interested in the water, and he's having a great time.

You'd be correct if you assumed this cat was born a mermaid. Kyle was unusually drawn to fluids from the start, as you can see below.

Instead of licking from a saucer, the kitten must reach in and extend his paw.

Kyle recently received a bright yellow tub to play with. He's pulled to it like a magnet right away and can't seem to get enough of it.

This orange ball offers some intrigue, but Kyle's favorite toy is the water itself.

The Turkish Van, a rare breed known as the "Swimming Cat," is the cat best renowned for its swimming abilities. According to The International Cat Association, these cats

"have a unique texture to their cashmere-like coats that make them waterproof which lets them enjoy swimming and other water games." With a built-in wetsuit, the Turkish van can paddle around as much as she likes.
