Deaf Daughter Gives Parents Ultimatum After They Spent Years Refusing To Learn Sign Language
When someone has to suffer a permanent body malfunction after an accident, the parent's support is a must. But not in this case.

Accidents have the potential to affect the lives of entire families. And you'd think that if a loved one survives, their relatives will provide all of the support they require, regardless of how it appears.
However, it seems that miracles do not often go that far. One Redditor lost her hearing after sustaining a traumatic brain injury, also known as a concussion. This Reddit member described how she was finally compelled to issue an ultimatum to her parents.
When she was 18, the deaf woman was involved in a severe accident and lost her hearing. She was up against a formidable foe, and fortunately, she persevered, overcame despair, and is now pleased with her life at 26.
Her relationship with her parents, on the other hand, is something she wishes was different. She tried her hardest to persuade her parents to learn American Sign Language, or ASL, to improve their communication.
Unfortunately, it all went in vain. She finally had enough and confronted them about their unwillingness to go the additional mile for her. They weren't pleased, so the Redditor resorted to the AITA community for an opinion on correct and incorrect.

No, you should definitely not stay where your presence is not valued despite it being your parent's house.

Kudos to her for doing it all on her own! It is quite difficult to rise back and shine after being in depression.

Things change when there is a slightly disabled person in the house, he/she starts feeling like a burden to the caregivers.

It is so rude of them to not support their daughter who is trying to get her life back on track.

Pack your things and leave right away! That is pure evil doing!
u/basketsoftough
Do they not understand that it is not your fault if you aren't able to listen to them.

If your parents really cared you wouldn't even have the need to tell them and they would have learnt ASL on their own.
u/basketsoftough
They are wanting to cut you off and then playing the victim card where as you are the real victim here.
u/basketsoftough
They are clearly doing this on purpose because captions may be annoying but what about the child who would not understand a thing on the screen?
u/basketsoftough
Exactly, now the daughter cannot learn how to hear but the parents certainly can learn how to communicate in sign language.
u/basketsoftough
They should be proud of her for coming out from such a big trauma and not give her more traumas.

If the parents love their kids they should be willing to do everything for them.
u/basketsoftough
They might be busy earning and maybe they really don't have time, but things like no subtitles and shouting at her isn't justified.
u/basketsoftough
The parents not only seem to be selfish but irresponsible for not caring for a child with hearing disability.
u/basketsoftough
This girl seems to be really happy with the deaf community and that's where she should be.
u/basketsoftough
Cannot agree more!
u/basketsoftough
Learning sign language is not a tough task and where there is love nothing is impossible.
u/basketsoftough
All these tiny things matter, especially to a kid who wants nothing but love and support form their parents.

It is unfortunate to see parents neglecting their children after a terrible accident. Ignoring the child's needs and doing certain things to make them feel worse about their already bad state is really evil of the parents.
Share this story with all your friends and family and let them know that their kids expect only attention, love, and care from them. Try being a little more patient with your kids.
