Dogs belong in the White House, but never before has a rescue dog lived there! That changed in 2021 and it just might change how dogs live in the White House for decades to come.

After what seemed like an eternity of waiting, we finally found out the US presidential election results. Thousands of people took to the streets with posters, American flags, and signs to celebrate the new president, Joe Biden.

Joe Biden's win symbolizes the beginning of a new era, much-awaited by many American people. But there's something else about Joe Biden's election that we think is pretty darn special.

As it turns out, President and Dr. Biden's dog, Major, will be the very first shelter dog to live in the White House. How incredibly awesome is that?

Major, the German Shepherd Dog, has been a beloved part of the Biden family since 2018. Joe and Jill fostered Major as a puppy after their daughter showed them a litter of puppies (Major and his five siblings) at the Delaware Humane Association.

After fostering the adorable dog for a while, the family fell in love with him and decided to adopt him as an official member of their family. What a lucky pup!

"Today is Major's lucky day! Not only did Major find his forever home, but he got adopted by Vice President Joe Biden & Dr. Jill Biden!" wrote the Delaware Humane Association on Facebook in November 2018.

"The Biden's have gotten to know Major while fostering him and are now ready to make the adoption official. Best of luck and thank you for being one of our Friends for life!" they continued.

The Biden's received a lot of criticism back in 2008 when they purchased their other dog, Champ, from a commercial breeder rather than adopting.

Either way, we're sure Champ and Major will be thrilled with their new home at the White House!
