During his recent appearance on Australian breakfast radio show Nova’s Jase & Lauren, James spilled the beans on the incident with Oprah. It was one that left him cringing so hard, he described it as “the worst thing in the world.”

It all started back in 2004, when Oprah visited Jamie’s now-closed Fifteen restaurant in London. Knowing that an all-around powerhouse was coming to dine at his restaurant, Jamie pulled out all the stops. 

The pressure was on, and the young chef was determined to make an impression. The visit went smoothly—or so he thought—until an unexpected twist changed everything.

In an instant, the air of elegance shattered, and Jamie felt like he’d just witnessed “the worst thing in the world.” Despite the cringe-worthy mix-up, Oprah took it in stride, proving why she’s as beloved as she is. The two also ended up becoming really close pals.

This time, it was during a live segment in front of 600 audience members. As Jamie drove in on a scooter (as they’d rehearsed beforehand), the newly polished floor and brakes didn’t cooperate—and it led to a scene straight out of a comedy sketch. 

“I was going towards Oprah, and I wasn’t stopping. I flew off the bike.” He recalled. Oprah’s security team assumed he was deliberately out to cause harm, but fortunately, the issue was resolved.
