No two families are alike when it comes to how they prepare for their children leaving the house to pursue their careers or going off to college. You may still experience emotional distress about what it will be like to live without children in the house.

This is despite the fact that it can be incredibly exciting to watch your children enter a new phase of their lives, and you can feel immensely proud of having raised them in the right way and that they feel ready to move on.

It can be rather strange to have your children fly the nest after twenty or even thirty years of being your little ones and having them at your feet, or at least around the house.

You are never really prepared for it and there are moments when you may feel lost. And if you can't handle it right away, it could have a negative psychological and emotional impact on you.

Getting a pet is something you might want to consider, but it won't be the best option for everyone or something you should decide to do hastily. Still, a person's best companion is a dog and getting one means that living alone doesn't feel isolating any longer.
