Husband's Rule Makes Woman Stop Her Daughter From Sharing Room With Her Boyfriend While Visiting, Redditors React
"I think it's an extra touchy subject because it was her first time"

We all are not new to rules, especially the ones laid out in our respective families. Children learn what behaviors are acceptable and unacceptable from family rules.
Children will grow up in environments where they must abide by regulations. Children who follow the rules at home will be better able to follow them elsewhere.
Children often challenge boundaries and break the rules but when rules are broken, your child will learn the value of rules from your consistent enforcement of penalties. Everyone must be aware of, compliant with, and understanding of the family rules for them to be effective.
This way, kids don't receive conflicting messages about what is acceptable or unacceptable. In today's story, we see a rule that didn't sit quite well with so many Redditors.
OP's husband is more old-fashioned and has always had a rule for his kids that no one shares a bed under his roof unless they’re engaged or married. The OP agreed that it was fair that if her husband’s kids had to follow this rule, her daughter had to too.
Two of OP's husband’s kids are already married, and the other isn't dating anyone and hasn't ever. So even though the rule supposedly applies to everyone, OP's daughter is the only one affected by it.
Her boyfriend came over, but they weren't allowed to share a room. Mind you, the OP and her boyfriend are in their early twenties. Keep scrolling to read the full story below.

OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the a-hole:
I might be TA because I do recognize that my daughter is effectively the only kid getting targeted by this rule, and I do agree that the rule is unnecessary.

Why is it just the husband's roof?

I don't know 100% that he's only ever been with 2 women because I've never actually asked him if there were others besides me and his first wife, but I don't think there were. But he's not a close-minded person in general, no.
Essentially I just agreed that it wasn't fair to bend the rule just for one kid when the others had to follow it, and I didn't think it was a big deal that my daughter and her boyfriend would have to sleep apart for a few nights.
Is the rule important or not?

The OP doesn't even agree with the rule

It's not the husband's place to judge

The OP has the freedom to establish any restrictions she likes for her house, and her daughter is free to visit or not. But many Redditors told the OP to determine whether or not she can live with the fact that her daughter might not longer visit her as often or she might even not visit at all.
Redditors made their verdict and the OP was declared the AH. Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
