We all are not new to rules, especially the ones laid out in our respective families. Children learn what behaviors are acceptable and unacceptable from family rules.

Children will grow up in environments where they must abide by regulations. Children who follow the rules at home will be better able to follow them elsewhere.

Children often challenge boundaries and break the rules but when rules are broken, your child will learn the value of rules from your consistent enforcement of penalties. Everyone must be aware of, compliant with, and understanding of the family rules for them to be effective.

This way, kids don't receive conflicting messages about what is acceptable or unacceptable. In today's story, we see a rule that didn't sit quite well with so many Redditors.

OP's husband is more old-fashioned and has always had a rule for his kids that no one shares a bed under his roof unless they’re engaged or married. The OP agreed that it was fair that if her husband’s kids had to follow this rule, her daughter had to too.

I don't know 100% that he's only ever been with 2 women because I've never actually asked him if there were others besides me and his first wife, but I don't think there were. But he's not a close-minded person in general, no.

Essentially I just agreed that it wasn't fair to bend the rule just for one kid when the others had to follow it, and I didn't think it was a big deal that my daughter and her boyfriend would have to sleep apart for a few nights.
