What is a hipster? It seems as though the word itself has lost whatever meaning it was originally meant to have by now. I mean, originally it was meant to be a term for people who are 'hip' as in those who are at the front of cultural trends in what they wear, the music they listen to, the places they go at night and the food that they eat.
Through time however it appears that the term has devolved to be a stereotype of a certain look or set of interests. Whether its derogatory or not is a different argument. In this story though, a website wrote an article about how all hipsters look the same, which I suppose could be true in certain instances, however the reaction from one dude was the cream on top of a large, and very ironic cake.
The picture and model in question.
So what happened is this website posted the story about all hipsters looking the same and some guy emailed the website furiously, claiming that they had used an image of him and that they were defaming him. Essentially he was requesting that they immediately take down the article or change the pictures within it, as it was unlawful use of his personal image and brand.
The article in question.
The editor of the website took to Twitter to explain the situation.
First he addresses the term itself.
Then clarifies the legality around the picture itself.
Here's the model
They didn't think it was slanderous, however contacted Getty images (where they had gotten the stock image) for their take on things.
TURNS OUT IT WASN'T EVEN HIM
AFTER ALL THAT, IT WASN'T EVEN THE GUY! HE HAD MISIDENTIFIED HIMSELF!
