When it comes to dogs, you might think that their artistic abilities are limited. That's less true these days though, especially when this dog is helping set the bar.
DIY art and famous artwork recreation wave hit the internet during the first months of the pandemic when people were confined to their homes and had nothing to do. When the Getty Museum first shared its challenge, many museums and cultural institutions followed.
As lockdowns are continuing all over the world, this recreation movement is having its renaissance, and now, dogs have been invited. What could be better than dogs and art in one challenge?
Artist Eliza Reinhard, from Lantana, Texas, has been creating the daily recreations for almost a year as a creative tribute to famous artworks. Eliza has teamed up with her Australian Shepherd Dog named Finn, who’s absolutely loved by the camera.
It would be impawsible not to love a dog as cute as Finn as it is, but this dog is now also a fabulous artist. We have compiled a list of the best work that this human and dog duo have shared, and we know you are going to enjoy it, especially if you love dogs.
1. "Portrait Of Anna Rosina Marquart, 1642 By Michael Conrad Hirt vs. Portrait Of Finnegan Dorman, 2020"
Eliza told the reporters that she got laid off when the pandemic started, and she was at home 24/7 with her dog, Finn.
"I'm a painter, so I would want to go into my studio and work, but Finn would get SO upset. Therefore, I wanted to come up with a project that he could do with me." At that time, Eliza's mother mentioned that she noticed a challenge online and felt it would be interesting to do with her dog, Finn.
"I expected that we would do a few photos, and he would get bored, but he is a working breed (Australian shepherd), so he does best when he has a job." It turns out that Finn "has 110% taken these photos on as his daily task," Eliza stated.
7. "Boy With Head In Wreath, 1957 By Norman Rockwell vs. Dog With Head In Wreath, 2020"
8. "Portrait Of Constantijn Huygens (1597-1687) And His Five Children, 1640 By Adriaen Hanneman vs. Portrait Of Finnegan Dorman (2017 - ) And His Five Friends, 2020"
When asked how Finn is so camera savvy, the artist said that this dog somehow knows when she is asking him to do photo-related things, as "he feels he is 'working.'" "He is just trying very hard to please and get it right, so he'll do almost anything I ask of him."
The latest wave of these artwork recreations was mostly inspired by the quarantine. People all over the world are now having their lives undergo enormous changes and the chances. Like so many of us, the social distancing and lockdowns have made Eliza appreciate the small things in life.
9. "Portrait Of A Woman With A Man At A Casement, 1440 By Fra Filippo Lippi vs. Portrait Of A Woman With A Dog At A Casement, 2020"
"I absolutely adore taking long walks with Finn during the day, just to get out and admire the world. It's made me really slow down and just give myself time to 'be.'"
Eliza also said that all of us are so used to "being rushed and constantly swamped with activities—'go go go' lifestyle," that this situation is like a breath of fresh air. "It honestly feels like a blessing in disguise to be forced to calm down and take things a little slower," she concluded.
10. "The Scream, 1910 By Edvard Munch vs. The Joyful Scream, 2021"
