Viral Video Shows Woman Describing Dubai As A "Dystopian Hell" While Revealing The Negative Side Of Living There

The negative aspects of living in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), were revealed by a TikToker, who called it a "dystopian hell." Since then, the influencer's now-viral video has prompted a response from the executive director of a human rights organization, exposing gender violence and the risk involved in attempting to defend victims.

This woman goes by the handle of "Anna," and she posted a video on her TikTok page featuring a few pictures of her time spent working in Dubai. The first image in the slideshow, which has received over 620,000 views, appeared to be of Anna posing on a bridge in the Emirati city, with the caption, "If you asked me about Dubai."

In the second picture, Anna was seated at what looked to be a conventional dinner table in the United Arab Emirates, and there was a note that said, "I'd say I hated it." Next, a picture of Anna petting a camel in the desert was displayed on the slideshow, along with the comment, "Her petting a camel in the desert."

The final image showed a nighttime skyscraper with the words, "I'd say it's the worst place I've ever lived," written on it.

“I’ll never forget the image of people ordering gold-covered steaks while immigrants worked in 43C heat right outside the window," Anna added. "Walking 3 hours without seeing one piece of nature that didn’t seem fake, even the beaches and waves was artificial as some sort of dystopian hell."

"Seeing girls stopped by police for dancing, and botox adds targeting me at 24… Men walking around with 3 wifes who all looked miserable. Animals, women, immigrants, and everybody else except rich men are treated like objects. Literal hell.”

Anna finally wrote in the caption saying: “The way i’m never going back.”

Different views were sparked by the slideshow, as one TikTok user questioned: "Only Westerners complain about it, best part of Dubai is its safety, can you say the same about Europe / America?”

Another commenter said this is the best video about Dubai that they've seen. Anna had to reply to a particular comment which says "I can leave my car unlocked with my bag on the roof go about my day and it’s still there hours later.”

Anna said “Except as a woman you are adviced to never press charges if a man [sexually assaults] you, because according to their laws you can end up charged yourself for s3x outside marriage. Really safe”.

Due to its history of violating human rights—including the labor exploitation of migrant workers, who frequently endure subpar living circumstances and low pay—as well as its stringent regulations restricting freedom of speech and LGBTQ+ rights, Dubai has been known as a contentious city.

Its sophisticated architecture, luxurious lifestyle, and tax-free atmosphere continue to draw tourists and expatriates despite these problems. Even if the city's reputation on human rights is still being criticized, its attractiveness to people worldwide keeps expanding.
