Injured Dog Found Abandoned At An Airport Bathroom With A Heartwrenching Note From His Owner Who Had To Leave Him After Escaping An Abusive Relationship

People who abandon their pets are typically condemned for their heartless decision. Non-profit rescues and animal shelters are brimming with abandoned animals who, through no fault of their own, were left out in the cold to survive.

However, not all cases are the same. In this story, a dog was found abandoned in an airport bathroom with a heartbreaking note explaining why he was left behind.

Chewy, the three-month-old chihuahua, was found by an anonymous traveler inside the women's bathroom. Their heart broke further when they read the note left by Chewy's owner.

Chewy's owner was fleeing an abusive relationship. She wanted to bring Chewy with her but couldn't afford the cost of traveling with a pet.

"She didn’t want to leave me with all her heart, but she has no other option," wrote the dog's owner. She also asked whoever found Chewy to bring him to a veterinarian because he has a knot on his head after getting kicked by the abusive ex-boyfriend.

The staff at the Las Vegas McCarren International Airport got in touch with a local rescue organization. The CEO of Connor and Millie's Dog Rescue CMDR shared that their heart dropped as soon as they heard of Chewy's story.

They placed Chewy with one of their foster parents and instructed her to immediately bring the dog to a clinic. They found a sizeable bump on the side of his head and treated the jaw pain that the dog cried about.

Fortunately, Chewy had no permanent injuries

Chewy's touching story reached people from all over the world. The rescue organization posted shared his story in the hopes that it reaches his former owner.

"Please share in hopes that his mom sees this that she was brave to leave and that he will have a great life." Chewy was showered with love as he was waiting to live with his fur-ever family.

Thousands of applicants wrote in to express interest in becoming Chewy's new owner

People were ecstatic on behalf of the dog's rescue

They reassured anxious animal lovers that Chewy was in safe hands and no longer has to live his life in danger

The rescue had to ask people to consider adopting locally and visiting their local shelters to give dogs like Chewy a new lease on life

The rescue kept an open line for Chewy's former owner to contact them

But her safety was paramount after escaping such a dangerous situation

Seven years after Chewy's rescue, Connor and Millie's Dog Rescue CMDR happily reports that Chewy is living like a king with his new family who choose to remain anonymous

Chewy's mom did what any selfless pet owner would do. It must have been painful to leave Chewy behind, but it was best for the two of them to go their separate ways.

She knew what was best for Chewy no matter how heartbreaking it was for her. We hope she and Chewy are both thriving wherever they are.

They both deserve great lives after what they survived. Chewy is just one of the thousands of animals who are victims of their circumstances, and they all deserve love.
