Disney's First Official LGBTQ Pride Event Coming This Summer

Over the years Disney has had a troublesome relationship with the LGBTQ community. They were known for a while for being mostly neutral having never before held an official Disney pride event but in more recent years have been more openly supportive of the community (through selling pro pride merchandise and allowing same sex weddings at the park).

This year however, Disney has doubled down their efforts to support the LGBTQ community by hosting their first official pride event called 'The Magical Pride Party' in Disneyland Paris on June 1st 2019. It will be similar to the pride event that was held in California until 1998. This event has been described as a dazzling party by some.

A brief history of pride within the Disney Parks

Disney parks all over the world have been on and off holding pride events for decades. What makes this one unique is that it is official and has the full backing of the Walt Disney Company (which the other events did not) who are rumored to be the ones organising the ins and outs of the event. Some pride event were held in California but were stopped in 1998. Other pride events began in Disney parks all over the world in 2014 and has been running since.

Disney has also taken other smaller steps to show their support such as opening Cinderella’s Castle to same-sex weddings in 2007 whilst same sex marriage was not yet legal. Also as of last year they have been various pride merchandise.

This new official celebration will begin on June 1st 2019 and run for the entire month. It will include a dance party and will allow guests to ride the rollercoasters well into the night. The event is even set to have special guests.
