When companies charge too much for their products and underpay employees, you always end up with hilarious results. The employees won't care enough to make the product or service as good as the employer is charging.
In some cases, when the place of business is managed by the owners, making the prices ridiculously high while the product's quality is mediocre would simply be dishonest and ill-natured. Restaurants rely on loyal customers who would only be interested in coming back if the food and service are actually good.
When restaurants don't try to improve the quality of their food, customers stop showing up, and eventually end up out of business. It's how the world works, and people don't like getting scammed, especially when it comes to food.
They could simply accept the fact that their food is not that good and reduce the prices or put more effort into making their food. It's the least thing to expect from a restaurant that supposedly doesn't want to lose customers.
