Do you still remember the times you rushed home from school consistently just to catch up with that interesting show? Do you remember the notable show, Total Request Live, which debuted in 1998 and was hosted by Carson Daly?
The show quickly became a must-see television program for a whole generation of people who love music. This was particularly due to the fact that MTV often had the latest and hottest pop artists and boy bands as performers and special guests.
We’re talking about the likes of The Backstreet Boys, Britney Lances, NSYNC, Destiny’s Child, Christina Aguilera, and so on. The show was also the location to see the world premieres of the newest music videos.
Indeed, this was way before we could all watch all the latest music videos on YouTube whenever we wanted. Talk about TRL, which completely set the vibe for pop music at that point in time.
Looking past the music, TRL was our first memorable glimpse at emerging dressing styles and beautiful patterns. And the vast majority of us would rush to the shopping mall to see if we could find clothing, adornments, and cosmetics that would help us appear more like our favorite music superstars.
Well, TRL's prime was in the early 2000s, which was a truly iffy time in fashion styles. So keep scrolling and prepare for an oldie, which is actually a goodie when you see these celeb sketchy looks.

These belly-baring, western-inspired getups were outrageous and the sparkly cowboy hats with blue bandanas were too much.

Check out the earrings, necklace and that ruffled skirt looking like something a hippie grandma would put on.

The waist up tells a different story from the hips down. Is that a bra under there or what?

The light blue was overkill, and those jeans were so offensive.

Check out the frayed hem of his jeans just like the cuffs on that barely visible white jean jacket tied around his hips. If you look closely at the shirt's logo, it appears to be his own fashion line.

What's with all the baby blue velour tracksuits to the bare chests and bellies?

Her scarf is a huge no, and the gaucho-length cargo pants were so unflattering on her tiny frame.

This is just all kinds of wrong even with the skimpy minidress.

It's the furry hat, whatever those straps are, and his grandma's shawl for me.

Everything back then revolved around over-accessorizing, wearing as much sparkle and shimmer as you possibly could, and blending and matching patterns, textures, and styles that agonizingly conflicted with themselves. The superstars we saw on TRL were the fashion guinea pigs, and they'd make an appearance on the set in outfits that we now find cringe-worthy when we take a look back then.
