Sanitation Workers Shocked After Finding A Cat In A Garbage Bag While On Duty

Montero, the sanitation worker with over 18 years of experience was in absolute shock and couldn’t believe it:

“Who would do this? Putting the cat in the bag… There are so many different outlets to get to help a cat with a better life than to put it in a bag and tie it up and tape around the top. I can’t help but think it was intentional,”

With the help of his colleague John Kase, he opened the bag and discovered a terrified little kitten. They then proceeded to check the other bags but couldn't find any other cats. The cat had a piece of gunk on his eyes, which the worker removed and then put him against his chest for warmth and comfort.

The workers decided to give him a name, and after debating between Rusty and Hopper, they ended up picking Hopper. Which is what the back of a garbage truck is called, and that's where he was discovered and saved.

The workers had to carry on with their duties, so they called their supervisor so he could get him some help. Hopper was estimated to be 10 weeks old after he was brought to the vet and he, unfortunately, ended up having eye and upper respiratory infections.

Hopper later found a foster home after spending some time at Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue. As a parting gift, Montero and Kase bought some supplies and a cat bed.

Denise Hock, founder of Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue commented on the whole situation:

“People are just disgusting,” Hock said. “What would go through someone’s mind to tie a cat in a bag and kill it? If you don’t want it, call someone. Take it to a precinct. There are so many shelters. It makes no sense why someone would do something so horrible.”

Hopper's health is now stable, he's waiting for his new home while recovering.
