18 Adorable Cat Adoption Photos To Soothe Your Soul

According to estimates, 625,000 adoptable dogs and cats were put to death in the US in 2019. There are just too many animals entering shelters and not enough people eager to adopt a companion.

However, this horrifying figure might be sharply decreased. More conscientious pet owners would prevent more animals from entering shelters in the first place, and more people would adopt pets rather than purchase them.

By adopting an animal, you not only gain a companion for life but also free up a spot at the shelter for an additional animal in need. Having a dog or cat as a friend provides advantages for excellent mental health and has been extremely helpful to individuals throughout the epidemic.

After all, interacting with animals can lessen sadness and anxiety, especially in situations when stress is high (human-animal interactions may even improve peer-to-peer social relationships as well as enhance feelings of respect, trust, and empathy between people). Unfortunately, some irresponsible people needed their pets just for that - to provide them support and interaction during the pandemic.

Once the situation improved, social distancing regulations lifted, and people started to return to offices - these poor creatures were no longer needed. So, they chose to get rid of them.

This created an overcrowding problem in shelters at some point. Fortunately, things are changing, as more and more true animal lovers decide to adopt.

We are showing some of the most adorable adoption photos from last week, and we know you are going to love them:

"This is Gizmo. He's 12 years old and we adopted him in November last year. He was very nervous due to being bullied in his last home, and we were told that although he's very affectionate he would never be a lap cat. I'm so happy he's comfortable enough here that he's happy to have a snooze on me!"

"My 14 year old cat Breezy is sick and needs a biopsy. It's not looking good. I love her so much and she's the most loving cat ever. We adopted her when she was 7 from a shelter. She grew up in a hoarder situation and wasn't treated well. I always wonder why bad things happen to the best people/pets."

Is there anything more endearing than a story of an abused animal finding a loving home? We don't think so.

More and more people are devoting their time and money to rescuing a pet in need, bringing them to their forever homes, and giving them the life they deserve. And we couldn't be happier.
