Cameron Diaz, once one of Hollywood's most recognizable faces, recently opened up about why she took a decade-long break from acting before making her much-anticipated return. Known for her iconic roles in films like The Holiday, Charlie’s Angels, and Bad Teacher, Diaz was at the height of her career in the early 2000s.

However, in 2014, after releasing a trio of films—The Other Woman, Sex Tape, and Annie—Diaz made the surprising decision to step away from the spotlight.

For nearly ten years, Diaz, now 52, largely disappeared from Hollywood, aside from a few health book projects and a brief appearance as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars in 2022. Her decision to retire officially came in 2018, as she chose to focus on building a family with her husband, Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden.

The couple, who married in 2015, welcomed their first child, daughter Raddix, in December 2019, and their second child, son Cardinal, earlier this year.

Diaz has been candid about her reasons for stepping back from acting. In an interview with Yahoo Finance, she explained, "[To] be married and have our little nucleus of a family, it’s just completely the best thing. I don’t have what it takes to give making a movie what it needs to be made. All of my energy is here."

For Diaz, the decision to leave acting was a deeply personal one, driven by her desire to prioritize her family life over the demands of a Hollywood career.

But after nearly a decade, Diaz is back in action—literally.

The announcement of her return to acting came in June 2022 when it was revealed that she would star alongside Jamie Foxx in the action-comedy Back in Action.

The news surprised many fans, especially given Diaz’s previous statements about her retirement.

However, it turns out that her decision to return to the big screen was influenced by her longstanding friendship and working relationship with Foxx.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Foxx described how he encouraged Diaz to make her comeback.

"Cameron is such an incredible force and she has done so much in this business. We love her. We had to be very innovative in how we, you know, brought her back," he said. Foxx’s simple invitation to "have some fun" was enough to persuade Diaz to step back into the spotlight.

Rumors later swirled that Foxx’s alleged on-set behavior might have caused Diaz to consider quitting acting once again, but she quickly dispelled those reports.

Speaking on Molly Sims’ Lipstick on the Rim podcast, Diaz defended Foxx, saying, "Jamie is, like, the cheerleader for the entire crew. Everybody loves him. We have so much fun on the set with him, and he's just a professional on every level. Jamie is the best. I love that guy so much."

With Back in Action set to premiere on January 17, 2025, and more projects on the horizon, it seems Diaz’s return to Hollywood is here to stay. As she re-enters the world of acting, fans can look forward to seeing one of their favorite stars and her roles shine once again.
