Redditor Finds Out That Neighbor Advertises Her Family As Free Babysitters To Her Short-Term Renters
Do you know how babysitting other people's kids is the best part of an annual family vacation? Yeah, it's really not.
A dad of two owns an oceanfront cabin in an area frequented by other families. OP doesn't rent his cabin to anyone but they do invite their friends who have kids to stay for free once in a while.
During one summer, OP noticed a lot more children flocking to their cabin. They did not know who these kids were, but he allowed them to play with his daughters thinking they were vacationers who wanted to make new friends.
The kids stayed for hours, played with OP's daughters, and ate every food available in the cabin. A kid around 10 years old showed up every single day.
He didn't talk except when he grunted in response if he wanted a snack. OP's daughters didn't like the company of this child because he was reckless with their toys and threw things at them.
One day, the kid's mom showed up and said she would pick her son up at 1 in the afternoon because she and her boyfriend planned to go to a beer festival. She also helpfully reminded OP that her son isn't allowed to eat sulfites.
OP introduced himself just as the mom was about to walk away. The mom said she was renting a place near OP's cabin.
OP told the mom how her kid didn't seem to enjoy his stay at their cabin. He informed her that he and his family were going on a boat ride the whole day, so her kid couldn't really stay.

OP informed the mom that they were not friends with the person who rents her properties. Besides, he and his family were on vacation as well and they had plans other than babysitting kids for free.
The kid ran into OP's cabin and the mom tried to catch up to her until she met OP's wife. OP's non-confrontational wife was pissed and told the mom to leave their cabin because she was done with their intrusion.
OP found out that the mom was telling the truth. The rental property owner did say that free babysitting was one of the benefits of staying in her cabins. OP was never informed of that plan.
Vengeance was achieved when OP built a woodshed near one of the rental properties. He used one of his noisiest chainsaws every morning after a rowdy party. They also put up their babysitting rates in front of their cabin but haven't had customers since. His family remained friendly to nice people, but entitled parents stayed away from them.
She was getting away with it, too. Entitled people ruin things even for other entitled people.

These parents really didn't second guess about sending their children off to a house with a family they have never met. It was fine as long as it was free, right?
That mom tried to shame OP for being rich. Meanwhile, she wanted them to babysit her son because she wanted to get drunk at a beerfest with her boyfriend.
OP's neighbor was the reason for this headache. Who in their right mind advertises free babysitting courtesy of a neighbor who knew nothing of the arrangement?
They are not even friends with OP or anyone in their family. If not for the entitled mom, the rental property owner would have gotten away with the free babysitting stunt for a while.
