Since their creation, Disney princesses have been popular characters with people of varying demographics and have become a mainstay of the Disney company.
However, a majority of these princesses are caucasian, leaving many to not have much representation with Disney's iconic characters. In time for black history month, one graphic designer and illustrator from Columbus, Georgia, Davian Chester (who has a portfolio of jaw dropping brilliant work) has taken this on head first and re-imagined these characters as black women and they are absolutely brilliant.
This is not Davian's first time re-imagining caucasian character as black characters. He has previously re-imagined the characters of Dexters Lab. Here are the undeniably brilliant images from this talented artist.
This is the artist, Davian Chester.
Snow White
Davian works as an elementary school art teacher as well as running his own business where he creates brilliant illustrations and logos.
Belle
He has recreated both classic Disney characters...
Elsa and Anna
... as well as more newer ones.
Ariel
Davian Chester has stated that his inspiration was "the lack of representation of black women in mainstream media."
Merida
"I created this collection to ask people: What if some of the most iconic women in the world were black women? They would be bold, black, and beautiful with all shades of color" he continued.
Cinderella
"I love to create black beauty, and we need as much as we can. I have so many ideas I want to share with the world."
Tiana
Davian has said that he has been doing traditional illustrations since the 5th grade and picked up digital drawing in high school. Although Davian has attended a graphic design college, he considers himself self taught.
Aurora
In an effort to become more well known, Davian expanded over time to character design, logo design and animation.
