People with autism are just as likely to enjoy participating in activities that interest others as their peers who are typically developing. However, social communication issues are a diagnostic requirement for autism, and they manifest in a variety of ways.

Others may enjoy social situations and interactions when they are skillfully initiated by others, while some people on the autism spectrum may actively seek out social opportunities and initiate social interactions. Many people genuinely want to be friends, but they may find it challenging to form and maintain those relationships.

The OP of today's story talks about one of his autistic students who struggles to know what is socially appropriate to say and/or do. Due to this, the OP and many other teachers were more lenient when this autistic student broke certain rules, as she was not usually a repeat offender.
