How Anya Taylor-Joy Pulled Off Ultimate Hollywood Sneak Attack With Surprising Cameo In ‘Dune 2’ While Actively Filming ‘Furiosa’

Anya Taylor-Joy is no stranger to taking on iconic roles, but her portrayal of Furiosa in the upcoming “Mad Max: Fury Road” prequel may be her most challenging yet.

Imagine waking up at 1:45 a.m. to plaster seven layers of grime and gore on your face, only to face the harsh Australian winter in the middle of a sand-dune wasteland. It’s not exactly the glam life of a Hollywood star, but for Taylor-Joy, it was all part of the job

“You will not believe how dirty I had to be for it to read on camera,” she laughs, showing off a picture where she insists she looks like a creature from the Black Lagoon.

Despite the grueling schedule and the intense transformation process, Taylor-Joy found joy in the chaos. There was something grounding in the midst of all that dystopian madness: her fluffy Ragdoll cat, Kitsune.

“I needed to funnel my love into something. My brain told me I needed something to nurture,” she said, and Kitsune filled that void perfectly. The cat even accompanied her to the set daily.

It’s hard to imagine Furiosa, the ultimate post-apocalyptic warrior, turning into a cat mom between takes. However, that’s exactly the kind of duality that makes Anya Taylor-Joy so captivating.

Interestingly, while Taylor-Joy was in the midst of transforming into Furiosa, she had her eyes set on another movie role—something completely different, yet equally compelling. That movie was none other than “Dune: Part Two.”

Although her schedule didn’t initially align with the sci-fi epic, a last-minute opportunity landed her a surprise cameo. She appears at the end of the film as Paul Atreides’ younger sister, Alia, all grown up, making a brief but impactful entrance.

Balancing the grueling schedule of “Furiosa” while secretly filming her cameo in “Dune: Part Two” was no easy feat. Anya had to sneak off to Namibia for the shoot, all while keeping it a closely guarded secret.

Only her parents and husband, Malcolm McRae, were aware of her role, and they all shared a quiet thrill knowing the big surprise was coming. When she finally walked the carpet for the Dune premiere, the world was stunned. Anya practically pulled off one of the best-kept secrets in Hollywood.

With her role in Dune feeling like a promise of more to come, it’s no wonder people are already speculating about her future in the franchise. When asked if there will be a Dune 3 and whether she might return as Alia, she’s hopeful. “I hope so,” she says with a smile, clearly excited at the prospect.

Denis Villeneuve seems to share her enthusiasm, adding, “Shooting with Anya in Africa was nothing short of magical. Her generosity, candor, and passion truly moved me. I can’t wait to go back to Arrakis with her.”

With ‘Furiosa’ gearing up for a big release and her ‘Dune’ cameo creating a buzz, Anya Taylor-Joy is proving she’s not just a passing star. She’s a force to be reckoned with—both on the road and in the sand dunes.

Whether she’s behind the wheel of a dusty war rig or zipping through the cosmos, one thing is clear: This isn’t the last we’ll be seeing of her. Buckle up, Hollywood. Anya is just getting started.
