According to the US Department of State, there are around 9 million American citizens living abroad. Furthermore, according to a Greenback Expat Tax Services survey, roughly one-quarter of American ex-pats are "seriously thinking" or "planning" to abandon their US citizenship.

So you can't help but wonder what makes Europe and other continents so alluring to Americans that they opt to make it their permanent home. This frank TikTok video from a Berlin-based American may provide some answers.

Jacobarthur30 recently posted a video in response to another TikToker's question, "If you're an American living abroad, please tell me why you'd never return?" So he outlined all of the reasons why.

They are simple and sometimes difficult to hear, but they will undoubtedly get you to pause and reflect on all of the things that are considered normal in America.

There is still a high number of experts going the other way, from Europe to the USA. The truth is that they are paid more in the states, but this applies only to experts. Regular people with regular jobs are much better off in Europe.

In a survey of 8,313 working expats living in 175 destinations, just 36% of Americans said their primary reason for moving abroad was related to their job.

There is no doubt that Europe is more tailored to suit an ordinary man. Healthcare and education are affordable and sometimes even free.

The employers don’t expect you to die working and completely understand that you need to have a life outside work. Maybe the Americans will come around and create a system like that for themselves.
