Meet the adorable boxer Dozer, also known as Derzer, Dohdies, D, and Dozy, for a joyful and cheerful pick-me-up. He is a cute, goofy youngster who has mastered the skill of holding objects, and he is a local legend in Perth, Western Australia, where he was born.

This dog will actually pick up anything and everything you show him and try his best to cradle it delicately in his amazing jowls. Then, as if it were the world's most valuable prize, he will sit with it for hours at a time.

And who are we to pass judgment on Dozer? Since the photographer also shoots pets, when he came to see me for his most recent portrait, a few of his favorite "things" had to come along as well.

Dozer has other talents as well, including leaning on people, hugging, and offering his hair to everyone he encounters. Now who says that dogs aren't the greatest?

My lifelong love of animals came well before my love of photography and began during my formative years in outback Australia where my father was a sheep shearer and wool valuer. As an only child, my constant companions were my dogs, guinea pigs, horses, rabbits and bottle-fed lambs.

My family had a great regard for Australian wildlife and I often helped my mother rescue and care for a wide array of injured kangaroo joeys, birds and other creatures until they could be released back into their natural habitat.

While the photographer's passion is animal charity work, they view pet photography as their day job.

Philanthropy is a huge part of my business philosophy and one of my driving passions. I work pro bono with dozens of animal rescue charities, sanctuaries or shelters, by providing images, sponsorship and conducting major fundraising projects every year.

Every charity project the photographer undertakes is about improving the lives of animals. Knowing that they can help make a difference to the lives of rescue animals is a huge motivation.
