Anyone who has ever worked in retail knows just how terrible it is to work in retail. Between managers and coworkers who outright suck, to customers who almost always suck way more, it’s a thankless job that will never pay enough for all the bullsh*t we’re expected to deal with.

Allow me to break it down more: Management sucks because they’re typically responsible for scheduling and somehow think scheduling an opening shift the day after a closing shift is reasonable. They will almost always side with a customer who acts less like a person and more like a loose collection of personality flaws.

Coworkers can suck depending on whether they actually DO work or create more work for you, like those who constantly call out and leave you solo for your shift, or cause management to call you on your day off to pick up the slack. But sometimes, there’s that special coworker who makes every shift worthwhile.

And customers, ugh, they’re the inspiration for so many memes. No thanks to the commonly touted saying, “the customer is always right,” there are hellacious people who seemingly have never been told “No” in their lives that feel like it’s completely appropriate to throw a tantrum in public.
