The 24-hour news cycle and endless access to information have highlighted one thing: we are collectively headed for a downward spiral of our own creation. Cool, well not really since the planet is warming rapidly.

It's easy to doom scroll and read everything that's wrong around the globe. It's like a fiery car crash that we can't look away from.

The current state of affairs is not exactly the most uplifting thing we can read about. They're very depressing, aren't they?

From wars, authoritarian regimes, mass killings, economic collapse, a pandemic, and basically every mass extinction event we can face it's difficult to see the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. But every now and then, we get a glimmer of hope and a spark of happiness from wholesome stories shared on the internet.

Sure, these stories don't end world hunger or homelessness but they do help renew our energy to keep going. They aren't toxic positivity, they're purely good posts shared by humans all over the world in the hopes that someone else sees them and smiles.

It's like spitting to douse a fire, we know but reading about "awwww-inducing" news gives us a few minutes of relief from the bleakness around us. So breathe in and breathe out, relax your shoulders, and read on to find a reason to smile!
